AIM Healthcare Facility Renovation

healthcare lobby design by gran kriegel architects in nyc

This primary health care facility serves the neighborhood surrounding Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.  The storefront facility, located in a new research building provides a welcoming, positive environment for the community.  It includes 9 exam rooms.  The bi-lingual staff refers patients to the hospital just across Broadway, for advanced treatment.

The ground floor space while located ideally to serve the neighborhood, is “left over” space – irregular in shape, with limited access to daylight. The core of nurse’s station, toilets and reception serves as the primary organizing device.  The fluidity of the circulation space around the core relieves the awkwardness of the space. The waiting area provides a visible response to the outreach goals of the clinic and a pleasant space, which eases the tension of the sometimes long waiting periods.
