The El Rio residence is a new 11-story supportive housing residence designed by Gran Kriegel Associates for Comunilife with funding from NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development. in the West Farms area of the Bronx has a consistent plan on all apartment floors for a total of 65 efficiency units. The lobby, offices, a multi-purpose room, food storage, laundry and resident storage are placed on the first floor and cellar levels, with residential units on the upper floors.

Site planning sought to provide breathing room between the new building and the neighboring 1901 neo-gothic building, avoid obscuring existing views, and maximize open space for recreation.

The building was designed with sustainability in mind and in compliance with Enterprise Green Communities guidelines. Construction was completed in 2016, with residency opening in April 2016.
