Client: New York City School Construction Authority
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Description: Located in downtown Brooklyn, the symmetrical plan of this 1951, 140,000 sq.ft. building with a central core facilitated conversion of this former courthouse into two 500-seat high schools. The interior of the building will be completely demolished and reconfigured to accommodate the new program. A rooftop addition will provide a Multi-Purpose Room for sports and assembly. The addition, a steel framed, long-span joist structure, will be separated from the existing roof by an interstitial space which allows for M/E/P distribution and isolation of noise. All systems throughout the building will be new. Existing fire stairs and elevator shafts will be kept, the exterior limestone facade restored, and windows replaced.
Construction is scheduled for Spring 2006.
